Founded by sisters Rumples Miranda and Kat Pesigan, both first-generation immigrants to the US from the Philippines, they moved to New York to pursue their careers and start their own families at the same time. Having laid down new roots, Kat and Rumples always talked about staying connected to their Filipino roots, so in 2016, kubo was born. kubo is rooted in 3 pillars: made by hand, made by Filipinos, made with purpose.

Rumples was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. In 2013, she moved to NYC to pursue studies in fashion merchandising. She delved into the world of fashion retail and wholesale, but ultimately, fate led her to create kubo.
